Technical Training Program

Prism Dance Connections Technical Training Program (TTP) provides its students with a strong foundation, a supportive mentality and a continuous focus on individual technical development. Our dual approach to teaching will offer a unique opportunity to have more concentrated attention on every dancer. TTP is currently split into four levels which dancers are placed in based on their audition placement in the summer. Dancers are placed in their level based on the directors thoughts on best fit and suitability for most improvement. Some other opportunities included in the TTP include; regular guest artists during Prism classes, convention participation options, trips to Vancouver’s Harbour Dance, beginning of the year photoshoot with KPH Photography and so much more!

Descriptions of classes

Jazz Tech – In the jazz technique classes, the focus will be entirely on technical jazz training. Students will learn about increasing flexibility and its relationship to strength, improving traditional jazz technical elements such as jumps, turns and kicks, correcting alignment and posture as well as learning new advanced movement while being stylistically current.

Contemporary Tech – In the contemporary classes, the focus is on movement quality, improvisation, partner work, musicality, floor work and the principles of grounding. As we progress through the year dancers will gain independence and experience in self choreography, expression, subtleties and nuances of body articulation.

Modern Stage – In the modern stage class the focus is on bringing out our dancer’s personalities through different styles of movement coupled with an understanding of body language, facial expressions and character development. Throughout the year we will work through different time periods of broadway, famous choreographer’s works, current works and our own PDC creativity.

Combo Class – This class is back by popular demand. This class focuses entirely on learning and picking up new choreography. The style of combo will rotate between jazz, lyrical jazz, Broadway jazz and jazz funk bi-weekly and will help the students in this class to focus entirely on speed and accuracy of learning, which is an important skill in the dance world.
